Getty Images Gallery: Retro Celebrity Photography
Continuing Four Hands Art Studio’s partnership with Getty Images Gallery, new, wall-ready works are here and ready to explore. A renowned supplier of stock images and editorial photography since 1998, Getty Images maintains a remarkable archive consisting of over 200 million visual assets. Getty Images Gallery is the lone gallery with complete access to the Getty Images Archive known as the Hulton, with 80 million rare photographs and counting.
The latest series in a growing collection of black-and-white still lifes, new black-and-white portraiture captures influential figures from the past, featuring a wide range of subjects, from musical icons like Bob Dylan and David Bowie to Hollywood starlets like Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, athletic heroes like Muhammad Ali, and more. Hand-assembled in Austin, Texas by our in-house team of expert framers and artisan printmakers, each rare print is float-mounted and framed within black-finished American maple for a clean, museum-quality look, and ships with a certificate of authenticity commemorating Four Hands Art Studio’s exclusive partnership with Getty Images Gallery.
ChromaLuxe Aluminum: Graphic & Modern
ChromaLuxe metal prints look bold, bright and distinctively modern. Featuring photography from Getty Images’ global network of contributors, this contemporary collection of landscapes, abstract imagery, still lifes and more employ cutting-edge ChromaLuxe technology using an intricate process called dye sublimation. Lightweight yet durable and made with recycled materials for eco-friendly sourcing, ChromaLuxe prints are fade-, moisture-, stain- and scratch-resistant, with exceptional visible detailing and vibrant color resolution that won’t yellow with age. Each high-definition print is float-mounted in vertical grain frames of light American oak, for an unmatched, ultra-modern look.
Dye Sublimation: The Inside Scoop
ChromaLuxe pieces look unquestionably cool, but how exactly are they made? Dye sublimation is a specialized printing technique, involving use of a transfer paper on which an image is directly printed. For ChromaLuxe prints, that transfer paper gets aligned with high-definition metal, then placed within a high-temperature heat press for roughly three minutes. A combination of heat and pressure infuses ink into metal, netting beautifully vibrant, saturated colors. The entirety of this dye sublimation process is done in-house at Four Hands Art Studio, in the largest press made, which allows for generously sized prints up to 94x48”.
