Meet Four Hands CEO, Matthew Briggs
Matthew Briggs is the man behind Four Hands — and that includes Four Hands Home, a retail furniture store only here in Austin, Texas. His interest in the furniture industry started way back in childhood, growing up in the middle of Apartheid in South Africa, and continued in his 20’s while living in Colorado and importing from Mexico.
It’s no surprise that he is passionate about the global sensibility at Four Hands. “The biggest misconception is that people come in the store ... and assume that Four Hands is an Austin furniture store ... but the reality is that we are an international, North American-based wholesale distributor,” he says. At Four Hands offices in Austin, there are more than 100 people working with clients such as Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and West Elm.
Four Hands tradeshow spaces in Las Vegas and Atlanta are legendary to the trade. Right here in Austin, the 12,000-square-foot showroom at 2090 Woodward echoes the cutting-edge design sensibility the company brings to High Point and beyond.
“The great news is that at Four Hands Home, we take all the power of the Four Hands wholesale side and create a one-of-a-kind retail experience for Austinites. All of this trendworthy merchandise is here months before it comes to other stores,” says Nealie Gillis, Four Hands Home Retail Show Manager.
CEO since 2009, Briggs’ quiet confidence and bold decision-making has helped Four Hands rise to the top of the furniture industry. Briggs recently took time to talk with Tribeza about his life, his company, and his vision.
