Inspired Impact: Four Hands Art Studio Creative Director Talks New Collection
Of the new art styles slated for Winter Market debut, many express the wishful essence of summertime. Mixing bold, eye-catching colors, geometric shapes and dreamy poolside scenes, the Teague Collection is a specially curated set, hand-selected by the Four Hands Art Studio team. We recently spoke with the studio’s Creative Director Kimberly Grey for an insider scoop on these soon-coming pieces, plus her favorites from the bunch.
How would you describe the new Teague Collection's general aesthetic?
Kimberly Grey: The collection itself highlights mixed media, digitally manipulated compositions, paintings, and photography. Generally speaking, this collection features pieces inspired by 1960s-era pop art, drawing upon artists like David Hockney. Lively and irreverent, these works are focused on fun and leisure, with a bright color palette.
Can you speak to that dramatic presence of color?
KG: There is surely an appreciation for pigment in these pieces. Color is the definitive element in creating the illusion of dimension, so there’s certainly intention behind the palettes. These pieces use tonal, complementary colors in an approachable way, meaning they can be worked into neutral and experimental styles alike. Color blocking, too, creates contrast and pattern within flat imagery.
Which is your favorite new piece from the collection, and why?
KG: My favorite is the Geometric Abstraction set. I love the way their inks are absorbed into the maple box. These remind me of the way prolific painters treat any surface around them as a canvas. The set itself invites the eye to move from one panel to the next, and back, taking a different path each time.
In which décor styles can you picture these pieces?
KG: The pieces in this collection focus on clean lines, so they can mix between neutral-tone furniture or colorful occasional accents. Thanks to their laid-back vibes, each image has the ability to stand on its own or be worked within a thematic gallery wall. And with many of these pieces having focus on outdoors, they almost resemble windows, as to recreate the carefree vacation vibes of summertime.
